Preventative Care for Your Kitten 
Vaccination Guidelines
- Distemper - 2 vaccines, 3-4 weeks apart usually starting at 8 weeks
- Rabies - one vaccine, must be at least 12 weeks old
- Feline Leukemia - 2 vaccines, 3-4 weeks apart usually starting at 8 weeks,
often only outdoor cats
Spay or Neuter
Spay your female cat around 6 months of age.
*cats not spayed are 7 times more likely to develop mammary cancer!
Neuter your male cat at 6 months of age.
*cats not neutered are much more likely to fight & roam around!
- Feline Leukemia/FIV Test: We recommend this test for these diseases at 12 weeks of age.

Preventative Care for Your Adult Cat
Vaccination Guidelines
- Distemper - yearly
- Rabies - yearly for the first year, then every three years after that
- Feline Leukemia - yearly, for outdoor cats
- Bloodwork Options: Veterinary Profile - This blood test evaluates many important enzyme levels in your pet's blood. We can check liver and kidney function and evaluate electrolyte levels with one easy blood draw!
- Dental Care: Dental treats, brushing your cat's teeth, and rinsing his mouth out with medicated rinses may help promote dental health. Sometimes it is necessary to use our ultrasonic scaler to clean his/her teeth of any built up tarter. This is done at the clinic under general anesthesia.
- Flea & Tick Prevention - We have a few products to choose from, but recommend you use one product monthly!

Preventative Care for Your Puppy
Vaccination Guidelines
- Distemper - 3 vaccines, every 3-4 weeks, usually starting at 8 weeks of age
- Rabies - 1 vaccine, needs to be at least 12 weeks old
- Optional
Lyme Vaccine - 2 vaccines, 3-4 weeks apart, at least 8 weeks old
Lepto Vaccine - 2 vaccines, 3-4 weeks apart, at least 8 weeks old
Spay or Neuter
Highly recommended at 6 months of age
*There are 2500-3000 dogs & cats born every hour!!!!!!
Spay - When we spay a female puppy, we remove her uterus and her ovaries, preventing further heat cycles, and preventing future pregnancies.
Spaying a dog greatly decreases the risk of her developing mammary cancer!
Neutering - When we neuter a male dog, we remove his testicles, rendering him infertile. He will have no risk at all for developing testicular disease, and has a decreased risk at developing prostate cancer!
- Heartworm Disease - Can begin heartworm preventative at 8 weeks of age, can test for Heartworm/Lyme Disease at one year of age
- Flea & Tick Control - Can begin using products at 8 weeks of age
- Obedience School - We highly recommend you and your puppy attend puppy school.
- Basic obedience class is a great way to teach your puppy some important commands, and also builds a strong bond between the two of you!
- Diet - There are many great puppy foods out there. At six months of age, you can gradually change him/her over to an adult food.

Preventative Care for Your Adult Dog
Vaccination Guidelines
- Rabies - First vaccine valid for one year,
Every additional vaccine good for three years
- Distemper - every three years.
Lyme Vaccine - Yearly, recommended for most dogs
Lepto Vaccine - Yearly, recommended for dogs that love the water!
- Kennel Cough - for dogs that will interact with other dogs vaccinate every 6 months
- Fecal Exam - We recommend a microscopic examination of your dog's feces be done yearly to check for parasite eggs. Just bring a fecal sample by the clinic, and we can exam it for you!
- Bloodwork Options -
- Heartworm/Lyme Test - We recommend a yearly test.
- Heartworm disease and Lyme disease are unfortunately both common in this area. Both diseases are treatable, but early recognition of the disease is vital to the successful treatment!

Foal Care
Castration - At 6 months of age, or thereabout. Preferably during fall or spring, when the flies aren't SO bad!
Vaccinations for Your Foal -
At 6 months of age -
Rabies - Eastern/Western/Tetanus - Flu/Rhino
*EWT & Flu/Rhino should be boostered in one month from original shot
Adult Care Vaccinations -
EWT - yearly, Rabies - yearly
Flu/Rhino - yearly in younger horses
- Optional - Strangles - yearly
West Nile Virus - yearly
- *will need booster 3-4 weeks after 1st dose

- Dental Care - Check teeth yearly, float as needed
- Deworming - Quarterly rotating schedule, herd specific
